Conway coach Kevin DeStefano’s statement rang true after the Lady Cats were able to sneak a ball into the net in the second half’s 34th minute to punch their ticket to the 6A State Championship Game.

Just after Mt. St. Mary’s senior goalkeeper Kaydee Price went down with an injury, the backup keeper was forced into the net, while Conway had an opportunity on a corner kick.

The corner from junior Kailyn Pavatt sailed into play and amidst the commotion near the net, senior Heidi Klug was “able to get a toe on it” to get the ball into the net with 6:31 left in the game.

The Conway girls celebrated with the advantage and now a leg up to get into the championship game with little time on the clock.

The Lady Cats just had to play defense and the trip to Fayetteville was theirs.

The game did get chippy at the end with a couple of yellow cards and a red card being handed out.

But, it was Conway that prevailed.

Both teams had chances throughout the match to score, but both keepers were solid in net and didn’t allow anything to cross until the Lady Cats punched the ball in net.
