Former Lady Cat Tolefree leads Jones

Jones Community Junior College freshman and Conway-native Alexis Tolefree has helped lead the Lady Bobcats to their first National Junior College Athletic Association Tournament in program history. One year ago, Alexis Tolefree and the Conway Wampus Cats were finishing their season as the runner-up in the 7A State Tournament. Tolefree was Girls Gatorade Player of the Year in Arkansas She was set to be a part of a dynamic backcourt at the University of Central Arkansas before transferring to Jones Community Junior College over the summer. Though Tolefree was going to a new city and an unfamiliar college, she has a familiar face on Lady Bobcats’ coach Missy Bilderback’s coaching staff. Former UCA assistant coach Brooke Rhodes is Bilderback’s assistant. “When Alexis decided to not stay at UCA, she reached out to coach Rhodes,” Bilderback said. “Alexis soon found that Jones was a natural fit for her.” Since arriving at JCJC, Tolefree has cemented herself as the top scorer on the team and 18th in the NJCAA’s Division I, scoring 19.1 points per game. In her freshman season, Tolefree has been a major contributor to helping JCJC to a 28-1 overall record, an 11-1 conference record and a No. 14 ranking. She was a two-time Mississippi Association of Community and Junior College Player of the Week the MACJC JucoWeekly Tournament MVP. “She’s been doing really well for us,” Bilderback said. “She is a big part of our success and she plays with a lot of drive. I see great things in her future.” Tolefree averaged 15.7 points per game over three games in the MACJC Tournament. In the Region 23 Tournament, she averaged 22 points over three games. The Lady Bobcats are the No. 13 seed in the NJCAA Tournament against No. 20 seed Western Nebraska at 6 p.m. Monday in Lubbock, Texas.
