Charging Wildcats deadly at the foul line

NORTH LTTTLE ROCK — The North Little Rock boys (18-5, 8-1) kept Conway (13-8, 5-4) from getting over the hump Tuesday night by shooting free throws. The Charging Wildcats hit 10 straight free throws in the final 2:12 to pull away to a 58-51 victory. North Little Rock did not have a field goal in the final 7:00 but hit 12 of 15 in the fourth quarter. “They do everything a great team does,” said Conway coach Will Johnson. “They rebound, they shoot, they attack the basket, they share the ball, they play good defense and they shoot free throws.” The Charging Wildcats had won three straight overtime games. Their steadiness at the free-throw line and getting into the passing lanes and forcing the Cats in to bad shots helped them pull away after Conway tied the game at 46 with 4:15 left. “They played well and hurt us in transition early, then we went to a zone and defended well and stopped their runouts and did a better job on the boards,” Johnson said. “They made plays and hit free throws.” Kendarious Smith led Conway with 22 points. Blake Bradshaw, who gave the Cats a boost inside offensively and defensively the second half, added 11. Deion Dobbins and Jarvis Ricks scored 16 points each for North Little Rock. Conway, still contending for a high seeding in the state tourney, hosts defending state champion Cabot on Friday. “We’ve got some tough games ahead and have to figure out how to finish better,” said Johnson.
